So I’m not college educated. I took some classes in college, but I never got a degree. I did complete beauty school, and I learned a LOT from the school of hard knocks.

But I never took any business classes.

And now, as a writer, who’s trying to treat my writing business more like a business, I’m finding myself very much lacking in knowledge about marketing and general business knowledge.

Way back in the day

I took some accounting classes. Quite a few, because in a weird way, I liked the exactness of it. So I wasn’t completely stupid when it came to business–I got how accounting and balance sheets and profit-loss worked.

But it didn’t give me any knowledge about marketing and general business practices.

So I’ve been reading.

A lot.

And watching videos about better planning.  (Check out Sarra Cannon’s Heart Breathing, if you’re interested in better planning/organizing)

Some of my latest reads that I highly recommend to better move forward in your writing business:

I have really enjoyed all of these so far. I tore through Writing and Releasing Rapidly — which is kinda funny since it’s about rapidly writing and releasing books.

No?

Okay, so it’s funny to me.

But in all seriousness, if you’re really looking to up your writing marketing game, you’d do well to pick up any of these. (Though Writing the Cozy Mystery is more about how to write cozy mysteries–something I’m toying with–Oh, whoops! I didn’t mean to say that!)

Anyway, let me know if you’ve read any of them, and what you thought.
